John Williams
El profesor y novelista John Edward Williams nació en Texas en 1922 y falleció en Arkansas en 1994, a los 71 años de edad.
Dejó la facultad tras un primer año de suspensos y trabajó en periódicos y emisoras locales durante meses hasta alistarse en el ejército en 1942. Fue enviado a India y allí empezó a elaborar su primera novela. Nothing But the Night se publicó en 1948 y un año después se atrevió con un poemario, The Broken Landscape: Poems. Ambas publicaciones vieron la luz mientras retomaba sus estudios superiores en la Universidad de Denver. En esta misma universidad dio clases desde 1955 hasta su jubilación, en 1985.
Su segunda novela, Butcher’s Crossing llegó más de una década después, en 1960, pero el verdadero éxito le llegaría con sus dos últimas obras, Stoner (1965) y El hijo de César (1972). Por esta última se hizo con el National Book Award en 1972.
Williams ya trabajaba en su quinta novela (The Sleep of Reason) cuando murió por un fallo respiratorio en 1994.
